Hi! I’m Kate Nichols, & I live at the intersection of Comedy & Mental Health.

I tell stories, make people laugh, and help them understand why their nervous system is absolutely not their fault - sometimes all in the same hour.

Who I Am

A woman wearing a blue jumpsuit and white sneakers sitting on a black stool against an orange backdrop in a photography studio.

I've been doing comedy for over 10 years, spent three summers making strangers laugh at the Edinburgh Fringe, performed for the U.S. Army (yes, really), and am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who was featured in a Time magazine article about comedy and mental health. I'm a psychotherapist, a storyteller, a crowd work enthusiast, a leopard-print lover and a person who owns too many just the right amount of plants.

My comedy is autobiographical, a little rascally, and built around one core belief: we have way more in common than we think. My workshops and speaking work run on the same fuel, just with slightly more nervous system science and slightly fewer punchlines. Slightly.

Comedy and mental health look like opposites until you realize they're doing the exact same thing: finding the shared human experience, naming it out loud, and making people feel a little less alone. That's what I hope to do in every room I walk into. No big deal or anything.

What I Do

  • People gathered at the Comedy Cellar nightclub, with a lit sign reading "COMEDY" and posters on the wall, inside a dimly lit venue with red curtains and warm lighting.

    Comedy

I’m a proud bisexual therapist with a gay dad and a dead mom and I will absolutely tell you alllllll about it #warning #threat #promise. I’ve done festivals, countless comedy clubs and bars, opened for Chris Gethard, am trusted by Don’t Tell Comedy, and I can keep talking but I’d rather you just click that button for more.

  • Close-up of a microphone on a stand with blurred colorful background.

    Speaking & Workshops

Imposter syndrome, stress management, values, boundaries, the nervous system…all delivered in a way that actually makes you want to stay in the room. I've worked with everyone from Fortune 500 companies to hair stylists to women in medicine, and I bring the same never-boring energy to all of it.

  • A woman with brown hair, red glasses, and a striped shirt sitting behind a desk with a stack of colorful books and a laptop with a Lenovo logo. The books include titles like "Dear Girls" by Ali Wong and "Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy."

    Consulting

Need a trauma-informed perspective on what you're building? Whether you're running a fitness studio, a non-profit, or a creative business (any group or company is what I’m saying), I can help you create spaces where people actually feel safe enough to show up fully.

  • A smiling woman with wavy blonde hair and glasses on her head, sitting on a couch in a modern room with white brick walls, a white bookshelf with colorful books, and decorative items.

    Therapy

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I work with creative women and queer folks who want to break the cycles that no longer serve them and build new ones that actually fit who they are. If that sounds like you, click over to my therapy site.
